Dr Bruce Ames

Dr. Bruce Ames is a renowned scientist who is currently a Senior Scientist at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI), director of their Nutrition & Metabolism Center, and a Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of California, Berkeley. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences and he was on their Commission on Life Sciences. His over 550 publications have resulted in his being among the few hundred most-cited scientists (in all fields).

In the early 1970s, Dr. Bruce Ames developed the Ames test, which uses bacterial strains to detect potential carcinogens. This test represented an alternative to animal models, allowing a large number of compounds to be screened rapidly and economically. Today, the Ames assay is used globally and recognized by regulatory agencies and authorities.

Vivotecnia has setup a reliable and robust Ames test which includes all OECD requirements in a single step, the AMESplus1.
